FOTD: Urban Decay Vice 3 (Downfall, Heroine, Bobby Dazzle) and Urban Decay Vice LTD Disco

3:57 PM

I have absolutely fallen in love with my two Urban Decal pallets from Christmas.  Dragon might be the best green I've worked with in a long time (used it here), but I am also loving the matte shadows in both of these sets.  I don't typically go for mattes, but I am learning how to use them to blend into creases and create some different combinations with them, although it has been a struggle because most brands matte shadows are so chalky and difficult to work with.  Not so much with UD!

I have been eyeing Heroine in the Vice3 pallet, but typically don't wear blues.  I decided to mix it with Disco and a whole lot of glitter to have some fun!

Here is the look, below:

Face:
L'Oreal True Match Liquid Foundation - N1
L'Oreal True Match Powder N1
Mally Bronzer - contour
Mally Beauty AirBrush Blush "Afterglow"
Artist Couture Diamond Glow Powder "Conceited" - highlight - BTW, if you haven't check out Artist Couture, you absolutely have to.  These will have their own post in the near future!

Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Urban Decay Downfall - upper crease
Urban Decay Heroine - cut crease, blended into Downfall
Urban Decay Disco - lid
Urban Decay Bobby Dazzle - highlight
Mary Kate & Ashley Sequin Glitter in All Over Gold

Argan Oil

Spotted: New Physicians Formula Argan Wear Collection at Ulta

11:56 AM

Argan oil is all the rage, and now Physican's Formula has come out with a collection called Argan Wear, which is infused with nourishing Argan oil!  This collection includes BB Creams, a bronzer, blush, and nourshing Argan oil to apply prior to your makeup - one is illuminating (has some gold infused in it) and the other without.  I am kicking myself for not buying the illuminating version (snapshot from the Physicians Formula website below).

The blush and bronzer are very pretty in person.  They appear to have a gold over-spray, but the detailing of the actual product in the compact is quite beautiful.

Closeups below - have you seen these yet?

I'm not going to lie, I went ahead and woke up at 2:00 in the morning to make sure I could get my hands on the relaunch of the Urban Decay Vice LTD pallet.  In the meantime, I had already purchased the Vice 3 Pallet, and had decided it was my Christmas present to myself, so held off on using it until just now.

Eyeliners

Swatches: NYX Gel Liner & Smudger in Betwitching Betty

9:28 AM

After about a year, I finally hit the bottom of my beloved Physicians Formula Gel Eyeliner in Black from the Hazel Eyes collection.  Of course, this was clearanced out during the CVS beauty clearance, so I haven't been able to find this one to restock, and I missed out on the beauty clearance so I didn't end up buying anything to back up my inventory!  Whoops!  I have come to love using a gel eyeliner, particularly for black, because they go on smooth and don't crack or flake off during the day, where my liquid eyeliners tend to do just that.

Well, when I was in Ulta the other day looking for some St. Tropez self tanner, I spotted a new spread of NYX products.  Well, these are new to me anyway!  Included was a section of gel liners and smudgers, so I picked up the black, called Betwitching Betty.  I'm pretty sure I paid $6.49 in the store, but online they are $7.99 at Ulta.  The size is 0.11 oz/3g, and pretty much comparable in size to the Maybelline Eye Studio gel liners that come in a pot.

The idea behind this gel liner/smudger is it is multifunctional - use it simply as a liner, or smudge it out for a dramatic effect on the eye (above).  I will say, the formula is so smooth and creamy, it can easly be smudged out without tugging or dragging on the eye.  It is also so pigmented that one swipe with your eyeliner brush and this gives a rich, black line that blends right into the lashline.  It is wet enough to be very easy to apply, but dries quick enough that your eyeshadow doesn't fall out onto the liner and stick to it.  It's official.  I am in love.

Below is a snapshot of the NYX liner pot next to the Maybelline Eye Studio as well as one of the Physicians Formula gel eyeliner pots, just for size comparison.

Swatched side-by-side: Physicians Formula (top) and the NYX in Bewitching Betty (bottom).  One swipe each with my tarte eyeliner brush.  If you zoom in, you can see the Physician's Formula has a slight purple shimmer, which is to enhance the hazel in eyes.  The NYX is truly a pitch black liner.

Like I said, I am in love.  I thought the Physician's Formula liners were easy to use, but this NYX is absolutly flawless.  It glides on, dries, and lasts all day without smudging, cracking, flaking or fading.  I like it so much I went and picked up the two browns in the collection - Charolotte (light brown) and Scarlette (dark brown).  I will swatch these in an upcoming post.

Have you tried these liners/smudgers?  What color did you try?  What is your favorite brand of gel eyeliner?

Blushes

Physician's Formula Sexy Booster Sexy Glow Blush "Rose"

10:19 AM

Nothing like a good ol' sale at CVS, plus coupons on the box to make for a good deal!  Before Valentines Day I went into CVS to pick out a couple of cards, and noticed they were having a straight 50% of Physician's Formula, plus a lot of the items had $2 and $3 coupons on the box!  So, naturally I picked something up!

I had noticed the new Sexy Booster Sexy Glow blushes on display a few weeks ago, so for $4.50 I got the blush in Rose.  Not a bad deal considering they are regularly $14.99!

Rose is a beautiful peachy base with a bright pink shoe in the middle.  This truly goes on more peach than pink, but the color is beautiful and the shimmer is just perfect on the skin.  The fragrance is a very warm vanilla, which I can smell after I've applied too.

The back has a compartment with a mirror and brush stored away in it as well.  I don't actually use the brush, but the mirror is nice and big, which makes for easier application.

Did you pick anything up on the Physician's Formula sale?  What did you get?

FOTD Neutrals

My Valentines FOTD Using NYX Eyeshadow Singles in Wild Flower, Jazzy Bronze & Shimmer

11:55 AM

I hope everyone had a nice Valentine's Day.  I decided to play around with some pinks and peaches for my makeup yesterday, as opposed to reds.  Simply, I'm ready for spring, so I'm hoping some pastels will bring it sooner!

A brand I haven't worn in a LONG time is NYX.  A few years ago I bought a ton of these from their website, and swatched them all here (pictures are kind of big, but you get the idea).  I picked out three complimentary colors to play with: Jazzy Bronze (far left), Shimmer (bottom right) and Wild Flower (top right).  Wild Flower would make a gorgeous blush too.

Meijer

Spotted at Meijer: New Physician's Formula Sexy Booster Collection

10:46 AM

I love seasonal collections from the various cosmetics companies, but one of my favorites has to be Physican's Formula and their Happy Booster line.  Something about the little hearts (see closeups here and here) and the shimmer really bring a pick me up to the daily routine in the gloomy winter months.  Plus, the colors are so bright and cheerful after deep vampy shades that tend to take over fall and winter.

This January Physician's Formula has introduced the Sexy Booster line, which is a collection of lip glosses, bronzers and blushes.  These are decorated with high heels and bustiers, which is quite cute.

I didn't get any of these, but do think they are really cute.  Have you picked these up?  Which one is your favorite?

CVS

Spotted at CVS: New Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Nude Smoky Collection

10:38 AM

'Tis the season for new displays and holiday goodies to really start popping up in the stores.  CVS had tons of displays along the tops of their health and beauty shelves the other day, and one that really caught my eye was the new Physician's Formula Smoky Nude collection.  If you frequent my blog, you know I adore the Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips Gel Eyeliners for Green Eyes, Hazel Eyes, and the Metallics that came out last Christmas season. I love the Green Eyes black pot so much, I have used the entire thing and am hoping to snag one when I go look at the CVS semi-annual beauty sale.  I swear these wear as well, if not better, than the high end department store gel eyeliners, and go on so smooth and pigmented, and for the set they average $4 a piece at regular price (a set of 3 is around $12).  Love, love, love...

Anyway, what really caught my eye were the new Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Liquid Metal Eyeliner Trios, and I'm kicking myself for not buying one when I was in the store.  I loved the taupes/nudes in the second picture.  It's hard to see, but the blacks actually have some shimmer to them as well.

Have you seen these?  I am going to have to go get a set to try - the colors look gorgeous.  I know Nouveau Cheap ran a review on one of the sets, and she has some nice swatches up too.  If I get one, I will certainly post a review too...

Aromaleigh

EOTD: Fyrinnae Electro Koi, Aromaleigh Zinnia, Fyrinnae Velvet Vampire and Aromaleigh Solange

10:46 AM

After several days over overcoming the stomach flu I am finally back.  I decided to go bright and colorful this morning, in hopes of giving my mood a boost.  Besides the stomach bug, the weather has been gloomy too, so I'm in need of some color to brighten the day!

My outfit had lots of coral, purple and pink, so I thought I'd tie in my eyeshadow with it.  Today is a mix of Fyrinnae and Aromaleigh - four colors that worked extremely well together.  Aromaleigh Zinnia (the inner corner shade) actually doesn't look like much when applied, but is a gorgeous pink in the pictures.  Maybe it was the lighting in my bathroom that washed it out, but I love the pop or color below.  Here is what I used:

Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy - all over lid
Aromaleigh Zinnia - inner corner
Fyrinnae Electro Koi - next in towards outer corner from Zinnia
Fyrinnae Velvet Vampire - next in from Electro Koi / blended along lower lashline ontop of liner
Aromaleigh Solange - outer corner, crease
Physicians Formula Gel Eyeliner Trio (green eyes) - the brown shade
Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara

I used to be timid about bright colors, but have managed to mix them into my looks.  For instance, Electro Koi is an extremely bright orange, and although gorgeous in the pot, one might think - what do I do with this?  But, just a subtle application with some more neutral colors can really make a look stand out, without being over the top.

One more thing, I just received the Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara in the mail as a freebie I signed up for on Facebook - it's a pretty good mascara giving some nice definition and length.  I will do a full review after a few more days of trial.

Bare Escentuals

FOTD: L'Oreal Infallible "Golden Emerald", MAC Golden Olive & Fyrinnae Leopard Print Galaxy and Dokkakar

11:12 AM

It has been far too long since I've posted a FOTD, and I absolutely loved the combination I used for a look this week, so I had to snap some pictures.  If I had been thinking, I would have also taken some outside, because these indoor pictures don't do it justice at all.

I apologize for my ghostly appearance - it's official, fall is here, and after about 2 weeks out of the sun, I lose all color I potentially gained over the summer.  I have officially switched back to my Bare Escentuals foundation in Fair, since I don't have anything else that nearly compliments my coloring right now.

Here is what I used for the look:

Face
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
Laura Geller Real Deal Liquid Concealer - Light
Bare Escentuals Mineral Foundation - Fair
Bare Escentuals Tinted Mineral Veil
Laura Geller Blush 'n Brighten in Golden Apricot

Eyes
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
Fyrinnae Leopard Print Galaxy - inner corners
MAC Pigment in Golden Oliver - middle of lids
L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Golden Emerald - middle of lids blended into crease
Fyrinnae Dokkakar - outer corner/crease
Physicians Formula Gel Eyeliner - Black
L'Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Hydra Collagen Plumping Mascara

Lips
Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Rosetto 08

I've said it before and I will again - I am absolutely loving the L'oreal Infallible eyeshadows.  I really would like to pick up a brown color, but I am waiting for a sale.  They blended effortlessly into one of my favorite brands, Fyrinnae.  Unfortunately, my camera isn't able to pick up how gorgeous these shadows were together.

FOTD Blue

FOTD: Fyrinnae Polar Bear, Arcane Magic Archmage and Arcane Magic Madame & Eve

10:57 AM

I think the weather has finally decided to break and it isn't going to be in the 100's+ anytime soon.  It's amazing, this weekend the high was 92 and it actually felt cool compared to the 105 we had the day prior.  I'm all for summer, but there comes a point when it's just too stifling to do anything, and we certainly were there last week.  I am happy to be able to get back outside and work in the yard, although after this heat wave, there isn't much to work on!

Anyway, another Fyrinnae look today - this time teals and gold.  Clearly the Arcane Magic shadows have been front of mind for me, as I am using two of them in this look.  Here is what I did:

Face:
Laura Geller Champagne Spackle
Laura Geller Balance 'n Brighten "Regular"
Milani Baked Blush in Corallina

Eyes:
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy - lightly patted all over lid
Fyrinnae Arcane Magic Madame & Eve - outer corner/crease
Fyrinnae Arcane Magic Archmage - middle of lid/patted onto Madame & Eve/lower lashline
Fyrinnae Polar Bear - inner corner, lower lashline blended into Archmage
Physician's Formula Gel Eyeliner - Black
Rimmel Wow Mascara - Black

Lips:
Laura Geller Marbled Lipstick in Brown Sugar

Happy Monday!  Here's to another, hopefully short (or short-feeling) week!

Avon

EOTD/FOTD with Avon Glow Eyeliner in Ultra Violet and Laura Geller's Amethyst Skies

8:41 AM

Avon's Glow in Ultra Violet is a bright "blurple" eyeliner with a hint of a satin finish.  Not nearly as shimmery as Desert Gold from yesterday, this color definitely adds a bright pop of color to any look.  I decided to put together an entirely purple look, using Laura Geller's Amethyst Skies pallet for the eyeshadows and then the Ultra Violet on my lower lashline.

For the look, here is what I used:

Face
Laura Geller Champagne Spackle
Laura Geller's Balance 'n Brighten in Fair
Mally Effortless Airbrush blush in Afterglow
Mally Effortless Airbrush highlighter in Purelight

Eyes
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
Laura Geller's Amethyst Skies pallet - light shade inner corner, dark shade crease and outer corner
Laura Geller's Amethyst Skies Pallet - highlighter shade - highlight
Physician's Formula Gel Eyeliner Trio for Hazel Eyes - black - upper lashline
Avon Glow Eyeliner in Ultra Violet - lower lashline
Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara - black

Lips
e.l.f. Lipstain in Fashionista

This pencil is a retractable pencil, extremely fine tipped and very smooth and creamy. I didn't experience any dragging, and was able to smooth and blend out towards the outside of my lashline before it set.   A really pretty, bright and summery color, I'd definitely recommend if you are looking to add something to your collection beyond your basic blacks and browns.

Bare Escentuals

FOTD: Golds and Browns using Laura Geller and Mally Beauty

11:07 AM

I haven't worn any golds and browns recently, so I decided to play around with one of my Laura Geller eyeshadow pallets from the Lightness of Beauty Collection (I have yet to swatch on here), as well as some of the items from my Mally Beauty High Performance Essentials Kit I swatched the other day.

For the look, I used the following:

Face:
Laura Geller Champagne Spackle
Laura Geller Balance 'n Brighten in Fair

Eyes:
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
Laura Geller's Eye Elements Eyeshadow Quad in Sahara Skies - gold - inner corner
Laura Geller's Eye Elements Eyeshadow Quad in Sahara Skies - plum shade - blended into gold and outer corner/crease
Bare Escentuals White Gold - highlight
Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips Gel Eyeliners for Hazel Eyes - black
Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara - black

Lips:
Mally Beauty High Shine Liquid Lipstick - Starburst

Below is a closeup of the eyes - these Laura Geller shadows are quite stunning.

I have to say, the Mally liquid lipstick is really nice.  It has a hint of color and sparkle, looks really nice to naturally enhance the lips, and lasts a while without drying out your lips.  I've been playing around with the other items from the kit and so far, I'm really enjoying all of them.  More to come in a further post!

Bare Escentuals

FOTD/EOTD: Fyrinnae Nijiro, Evocation and Medevil Haunting & Maybelline Pink Bliss,

7:57 AM

Fyrinnae is hands down one of my favorite lines of eyeshadows/pigments to wear.  Not only are the products an amazing quality, extremely pigmented, and of course gorgeous, but the color selection and complexity is outstanding!  Today I went for a smokey look using three Fyrinnae shades: Nijiro, an Aracane Magic in Evocation and Medieval Haunting from their Halloween '09 I believe.  All three of these colors are very complex, with color shifting and shimmer that isn't captured by the camera.

For the look above, I used the following:

Face:
Mally Beauty Cancellation Concealer System
bareEscentuals Foundation in Fair (original formula)
bareEscentuals Mineral Veil (original)

Eyes
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
Fyrinnae Nijiro - inner corner and lightly as highlight on lid
Fyrinnae Arcane Magic in Evocation - middle of lid, also lightly along lower lashline
Fyrinnae Medieval Haunting - outer corner/crease
Physician's Formula Gel Eyeliner Trio for Hazel Eyes - black liner - lashline
Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara - black

Lips
Laura Geller Lipstick in Banana Berry

CVS

Spotted at CVS: New Physician's Formula Happy Booster Collection for 2012

8:53 AM

Last year about this time we spotted the Physician's Formula Happy Booster collection, just in time for Valentines Day.  I picked up two of the blushes, which to this day are some of my favorite blushes to use, especially when in doubt about what color to use for the day.  Well, this year they have come out with two new bronzers and two new blushes in the set, as well as two lipsticks.  The lipsticks, like the blushes and bronzers, have a cute little heart embedded in the lipstick as well.  I am such a sucker for cute packaging, and again these little hearts hit the spot!

Physician's Formula is quickly becoming one of my favorite brands from the drugstore.  Like I've mentioned before, I love their gel eyeliners, highlighters and the blushes (especially those in this Happy Booster collection) are great as well.

Have you seen these new colors?  As much as I love the blushes, I will most likely pick one of the new shades up.  I need to take a closer look and see how they compare to the two I got from last year's collection.  I really like the bright pink one, though.  The lipsticks, too, are on my "want" list.  What about you?  Are you getting any of them?

CVS

Swatches: Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Ehancing Eyeliners for Hazel Eyes

10:16 AM

My absolute favorite gel/cream eyeliners are the Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips.  I've reviewed several colors/versions here, from metallics to the basics, and every one of them is fantastic.  The black in the Green Eyes set is my go-to staple black eyeliner every day.  When I saw that they were on the 75% clearance for CVS, I had to snag a couple backups for those I have, and I ended up grabbing the base set for Hazel Eyes since I didn't have it to begin with.

Like the other sets, this is three colors meant to enhance the color of hazel eyes.  I actually do have hazel eyes, so I was excited to swatch these and see how they looked on.  Also, this set comes with a brown/bronze, which I am out of my Smashbox liner so I needed something to back that up - perfect!

The three colors are brown, a cream/matte plum and black with plum and purple shimmer.  Unfortunately I had a hard time capturing the shimmer in the brown and black below, but the colors are accurate.

The pigmentation on these are very nice, just as the others have been.  The brown/bronze is gorgeous.  It has just enough shimmer, but is still very pigmented and actually very rich and dark on.  The black is great, just as the others.  I like the plum shade too, and will most likely use it as a lower lashline color.

The original price on the sets are around $11.99 a three-piece set, so $3.99 a liner.  At 75% off I paid $2.99 for the three-piece set, or $.99 a liner - AMAZING!  I cannot stress enough how much I love these.  If you love cream/gel liners, get to a CVS and pick one up.  You won't regret it!  I'd put these up against any of the high end liners for pigmentation, lasting power, color selection, etc.  They are great!
