Cover Girl

Swatches: CoverGirl Hunger Games / Capitol Collection - Scalding Emerald

1:59 PM

I have read about several sightings of the Hunger Games / CoverGirl collaboration, but hadn't seen it in the stores until this past weekend.  What a gorgeous collection.  I fell l in love with two of the nail colors (although all of them are stunning), so today I present to you Scalding Emerald.  This is a very sheer, gray jelly base, with green and gold flecks.  Very sheer, this would be gorgeous!

Below is 3 coats.

NOTD: Wet 'n Wild ATTEN Hut! Texture Polish

11:45 AM

Today's NOTD is Wet 'n Wild ATTEN Hut!, which is a texture polish.  This is an absolutely gorgeous rich army green with some slight olive tones in one light, and evergreen in others.  Under natural light it is a muted shade, but once outside the texture takes on new life.  It becomes a sparkling, multifaceted shade.  Absolutely gorgeous - I am now sold on these textured polishes!

Have you tried any of the texture polish offerings?  What has been your favorite?

NOTD: Revlon Colorstay in Rainforest

11:03 AM

Revlon Colorstay in Rainforest - a rich emerald green jelly base with glitter.  Depending on the light, this takes on more of an olive green to having rich teal undertones as well.  This is a gorgeous color, and would be beautiful layered under a lighter glitter, or used as a base for stamping.

Below is two coats with 1 coat of NYC Grand Central Station as a top coat.

Color Club

NOTD: Color Club Magnetic Nail Polish in Sci Fi

2:37 PM

One of the Color Club Magnetic polishes I picked up at Meijer last week was Sci Fi.  This is a metallic olive green with golden undertones.  When actually applied (no magnet) it is a really warm olive with tons of shimmer/metallic and some golden flakies.  When the magnetic is applied, oh boy do things change!  This looked like a tiger's eye gem on the nails - the pattern literally moved as I tilted my nails in the light.  It was so cool!

This was my first attempt at magnetic polishes, and I have to say I like them.  The colors are a bit deeper and richer than I typically wear in the summer, but this one was gorgeous.

Of course my manicure not applied really well - I was so anxious to give these a try I forgot to finish with my routine - clean up, wash and moisturize - before I took the pictures.  Also, my camera was dead again, so I had to use my iPhone.

Just a few quick thoughts.  Application was easy.  I actually applied one coat without using the magnet, and then the second coat did it nail by nail - applied polish and then magnet over wet polish.  The consistency was really nice and I didn't have any problem with drying time.  My pinkie nail must end up being farther from the magnet because I didn't have nearly as intense of a pattern on either pinkie as I did on the rest of my fingers.  My only complaint is this: the polish chipped and peeled like crazy the following day.  I'm not sure if it was because of my application and/or technique, or if it was truly the polish itself.  Either way, this mani only lasted a day on me before it was so peeled up I had to remove and do something else.  Bummer, but hopefully you fellow readers have some advice for me!

NOTD: Sinful Cast Away Polish in Olympia

9:31 AM

I couldn't wait to try out the Cast Away polishes from Sinful, and as I mentioned a few days ago, I was able to pick them up for $0.49 a piece!  Anyway, onto the first swatch: Olympia.

Olympia is a pale minty green creme with a hint of yellow/lime to it.  Depending on the light, you gather more of the yellow tones vs. the creme/mint tones.  I think the first picture below (with flash) reflects the more true to life color, but I took one without the flash (second picture below) just so you can see both scenarios.
(with flash)
(without flash)

This color is particularly beautiful in my opinion.  I'm not usually one for green polishes, but I found this to be very bright, cheerful, and wearable.  This is two coats with one coat of topcoat.  The polish itself was thick enough to get an even application in two coats and dried quickly.  I didn't find this gloppy or overly difficult to work with.

I will say, being a green with some yellow tones to it, I notice in the first picture my hands look a little on the red side of things, but I really liked the color so I think I'll deal with it.  I am anxious to put a flakey over the top - maybe I'll try Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure (the original) and see how it looks.

Massini

NOTD: Studio M (for Meijer) Nail Lacquer in "Orna-Mint"

6:01 AM

Another Studio M today, the house line for Miejer - this time from their holiday/Christmas collection that came out earlier this year.  This is called Orna-Mint and is a beautiful pale minty green foil.  In fact, this is such a shimmery shade that it was very hard to capture on film.  Below are the best pictures I could get.

The swatch below actually captures the green shade pretty nicely.  It is almost a light evergreen color, and the silver foil throughout really brings out the mint.

This is two coats.  This particular color doesn't wear as well as some of the other Studio M or Massini shades I have.  I think it's probably because it's a foil.  In about 2 days I started to have chips.  Oh well - it's a beauty anyway!

Cina

NOTD: Essie "School of the Hard Rocks"

9:00 AM

Essie's School of the Hard Rocks.  This is a dusty gray/teal/evergreen.  Really, the product in the bottle doesn't do it justice.  Applied, this is a very unique and beautiful shade.  This falls into the "greige" category, only on the green side - maybe a "greenge"?  I will say, this was a bit of a difficult color to capture in pictures - it looks more blue in the pictures, and is a bit more green in real life - but you get the idea.

I wanted to add a little bit of a festive look to this color, so I used one of my CinaPro Nail Decals in Peppermint Twist, which I found at Sally Beauty.  They are adorable, and this set has candy canes, snowmen, wreaths and gingerbread men.  There is another one exclusive to Sally that has Santa, Rudolph, and other festive decals.  I believe they retailed for $3.99.

Back to the Essie - the formula is one of the nicer formulas for Essie.  This is smooth and shiny and coverage is very nice.  Above is two coats of polish with one coat of top coat.  I would put this polish as one of the "must have's" for you - it's different enough, but also very wearable.

Have you tried this color?  What other color from the collection have you picked up?

Massini

NOTD: Studio M (Massini) Nail Polish in "Ego Trip"

11:31 AM

Another Studio M/Massini color from Meijer.  This time I have on Ego Trip, which was on an end cap with their Holiday colors for this year.  There were tons to choose from, many of which I will need to go back for!  Lots of metallics and foils.  If I had been thinking, I would have taken a snapshot of the actual display, but I spaced it.

Ego Trip is a very deep emerald green with hints of teal.  It switches based on the surroundings, although I wouldn't call it a duochrome.  To me, it's a very Christmas-y green.  The first thing I thought of was Hermey the Elf from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

This was an amazing formula.  I could have gotten away with just one coat, but I did two just for good measure.  The coverage was fantastic, it dried very smoothly without any streaking from the frost, and the texture was thin enough to make it easy to apply, but not so thin that it was runny.  I wish all the formulas were like this, but of course it depends on the color.

(this is the most true-to-life picture for the color)

Sorry for the grainy pictures - my camera was dead so I used my phone.  I just had to show this one off!  I'm thinking for Christmas I will layer some red glitter over the top.  The pictures don't do it justice, though.  It is gorgeous in real - life.  I will take some updated pictures once the batteries are charged.

NOTD: Wet 'n Wild "Ocean Grotto" (Mermaid Cove Collection) and Pro Strong Millenium

8:00 AM

Today's NOTD: Wet 'n Wild "Ocean Grotto" from the Mermaid Cove Collection, topped off with Pro Strong's Millennium, which is a holo micro glitter.  Ocean Grotto is a lime green metallic/micro glitter.  The mani below is three coats of Ocean Grotto with one coat of Millennium.  Beautiful.  That's all.

I can't even explain how gorgeous this combo is, so it's going to all be said in pictures.  Enjoy!

Blurry - see the sparkles!

Up close and personal...

This is hands down one of my favorite mani's I've done.  Green...sparkly...pretty.

Forever21

NOTD: Forever 21's Love & Beauty "Glitzy Green"

10:59 AM

Click the pictures for a larger view - it's amazing how beautiful this is when zoomed in!
So, I'm turning into a nailpolish blog recently!  I went into Forever 21 to pick up some earrings for an outfit I had purchased and discovered some nailpolish in a big plastic bin by the cashier.  There were tons of other makeup too, but this was the first time I'd seen the Love & Beauty line there.  I picked up two colors, one a deep burgundy with gold glitter for fall, and this called Glitzy Green for now.

Glitzy Green is a pale, almost sea foam or mint green with glitter and flakeys in it.  The glitter and flakeys are all iridescent, and the base is a sort of a jelly.  I was really hoping for this one to have more color to it, and ultimately end up more like in the bottle, but after four coats I gave up and went with what you see below.  It's really a gorgeous color, and I am looking forward to putting it on top of some of my summer colors (I'm thinking Wet 'n Wild's Garden Hose) to really maximize the color and glitter.  The polishes are $2.80 a piece, which really isn't too bad, especially when you take a look at the color selection and types: everything from cremes, glitters, metallics to even scented polishes.  I'm sure I'll get suckered into some more of these at another date.

Have you bought any of these colors?  What was the payoff like for you?  I'm really hoping some of the others are more pigmented.  I will say the actual polish lasted quite well and dried quickly.  Considering I have four coats on here, I had minimal chipping or bubbling.

An Easter-y NOTD: Ulta Professional Nail Lacquer "Into the Limelight"

10:22 AM

I'm so excited that spring is right around the corner.  Unfortunately, the weather we've had here in the Midwest has been anything but accommodating to the change of the seasons.  Cold, damp and rainy has been the name of the game recently, and it doesn't look to be letting up anytime soon!  Like they say, "In like a lion...".

Well, for Easter, I wanted to wear something bright, but springy, so I chose Ulta's Professional Nail Lacquer in "Into the Limelight".  Talk about a beauty!  This is a bright lime green with silver frost (and I mean FROST!).  It's absolutely gorgeous.  I would consider this a metallic more than anything else.

I tried under numerous lights to get this color to be true, but couldn't.  The flash totally washed out my hands, although the nail color in the thumb above is probably the most accurate.  I picked this up a couple of years ago and am just getting to it!  I'm not sure if the color is available in stores or not, as I couldn't find it online.  It must have been a seasonal shade.

The formula was nice - smooth and evenly applied.  I used two coats, but probably could have opted for one more.

Hope you all had a nice Easter weekend!  Happy Spring!
