Hard Candy

Spotted: Hard Candy for $1 at Walmart - Perfect Stocking Stuffers!

9:05 AM

I haven't quite figured this one out, but the local Walmarts in my area seem to get everything at the latest possible moment compared to when I read about them in the beauty blogosphere.  Take Exhibit A above...Hard Candy's holiday promotions, which included a set of 4 polishes for $10 as well as these mini polishes for $1 a piece.  I picked up the set of 4, so I will take pictures of that and post in the next few days.  I did not realize that Hard Candy was going to have the $1 mini polishes, though, and there are some very pretty colors.  What I was able to find while digging through the display were a large silver sparkle, a mini orange frost/micro glitter (which is actually the same as the orange that comes in the set of 4 Holiday polishes), a purple with magenta duochrome and silver glitter, and a bright pink frost.  There may be other colors, but if so, they were picked over.  Really, at $1 a piece, it's a great present topper or stocking stuffer...

Now, if I could only find the Nicole by OPI Justin Bieber collection...

EOTD Picture Tutorial: MAC Venomous Villains, Jordana Green, and Milani Lilly White **PIC HEAVY**

11:26 AM

About a month ago, I posted a look I did using MAC's Venomous Villains "She Who Dares, Jordana "Green" and Milani's "Lilly White" and received several requests for a tutorial.  I'm not quite savvy enough to do a video tutorial, so instead I have created a picture by picture tutorial below.  I hope this helps!  Let me know if you have any questions!

I started out with a clean face, no foundation or anything.  I typically don't do this unless I am using an eyeshadow that is very dark and that tends to have fall out, which "She Who Dares" manages to do.  Because of this, I can easily clean away any of the fall out without having it ruin my concealer and foundation.

Step 1:  Apply a thin layer of Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy all over lid.

Step 2:  Using e.l.f. Contour Brush, apply Jordana "Green" to inner corner of lid, all the way out about 3/4 of the way.

Step 3:  Using the same e.l.f. contour brush, apply MAC's Venomous Villains "She Who Dares" to outer corner, and blend up into crease approximately halfway.

Step 4:  Using e.l.f. Professional Eyeshadow brush, apply Milani "Lilly White" across highlight, and blend down into crease.  I also use this brush to soften the edges of the Jordana and MAC shadows.

Step 5:  Using your favorite black liquid eyeliner (I used Mary Kate & Ashley "Onyx"), apply a winged line across the top lash line.  Add your foundation, blush, and finish with your favorite mascara and you're done!

Hopefully this helps!  Add a little gold to this look and it would be beautiful for the holidays!

Nicole by OPI

NOTD: Nicole by OPI Gossip Girl Collection "Scandals, Secrets, and Sparkles"

10:19 AM

Looking for something silvery and sparkly for your tip your holiday nails in?  Well, this isn't from a Christmas or Holiday collection, but Nicole by OPI's "Scandals, Secrets and Sparkles" from the Gossip Girl collection seems to fit the bill!  Too many times silver polishes come off as looking like foil, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes you just want a pretty frost with some sparkle, and SS&S does the trick!

The polish itself is a light and mildly pigmented silver frost with uniform silver glitter throughout.  One coat could be used on top of a polish to add some silver and sparkle, but when applied with several coats there is a nice finish.  I used two coats, and although in person this looked fine, I can see that the flash of my camera helped point out the stained nails I have above.  Oh well!  I still like the color!  Maybe a nude or white polish underneath to help mask the stained nails?

Here is a closeup of the polish - see all the sparkly goodness?

What is your favorite holiday polish?  I have so many, it's hard to decide, but I definitely love the silvers and sparkles!
