Quick NOTD: Essie Merino Cool

11:16 AM

It's officially fall.  Not only was my birthday yesterday, which tends to lead to pumpkins and harvest decor in and out of my house, but the weather dropped down into the 60's today, with lows in the mid-40's.  So, yes, it's fall.

With fall comes darker and warmer mani's - out with the pinks and in with they gray's.  I chose Essie Merino Cool for today.  I love this color - it's an easy shade to wear and perfect for the fall wardrobe.  In reality, I find it to be slightly warmer in person than the picture above, but considering this was taken with my iPhone, it works!

What is your go-to fall shade?

NOTD: Essie "For the Twill of It"

8:36 AM

A NOTD from a few weeks back, Essie "For the Twill of It", from their Fall 2013 collection.  This is a dark metallic with magenta, teal and green flashes.  A bit thin, but after two coats it seemed to cover nicely.

I will say, I want to wear this one again now that my nails have grown out.  I don't care for this on my short nails, but I think on my longer nails I would like it better.

Black Radiance

Spotted at Walgreens:Lots of new Nail Polish by Sally Hansen Crackles, Sinful Polishes, Revlon, Black Radiance and Essie

9:40 AM

Lots of pictures for you today from my Walgreens run earlier this week!  First up, the Sinful Phenomenon collection, which looks to be some beautiful colors for fall.  I'm not sure how many, if any at all, are new shades on this display, but regardless, it is a neat collection.

Secondly, in a totally different direction from the Sinful Phenomenon display, the Revlon Nail Art Neon collection.  This has two polishes - a white base polish on one side to use as a base coat, and the other side has a neon cream polish.  These are absolutely lit from within.  My camera had a very difficult time capturing the colors, but you get the idea (I think!)...

Essie's newest collection is the Mirror Metallics, which is a set of beautiful foils.

I stumbled upon these Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat polishes, as they weren't on a display, but instead were just stuck between a couple of random displays on a shelf.  I happened to notice the coral one below, which made me stop and look.  I believe all four of these are new: Coral Collide, Sage Smash, Wave Break and StarBurst.  Starburst is really interesting - it's almost a black jelly with gold glitter in it.  This would be interesting for Halloween over an orange polish.  The Coral Collide and Wave Break remind me of two of the old Sally Hansen Hi Def polishes (which are on clearance right now).  Wave Break reminds me of Laser and Coral Collide reminds me Three D, but with more shift.  Beautiful!

Lastly, the new Black Radiance Girls Rock collection.  The bottles remind me of Butter of London, and the colors are really pretty too.  There were three glitters, a royal blue, an extremely bright pink/coral and teal.

Have you seen any of these yet?  So much to see...what to buy!?

Essie

NOTD: Essie Braziliant

11:00 AM

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a nice weekend, and if you celebrated, a very Happy Easter!

Tangerine is the color of spring, so I decided to jump in head first with one of the prettiest colors I've seen - Essie's Braziliant, from the Braziliant Collection in Summer 2011.   This is an extremely rich and bright orange polish with a slight shimmer.  The shimmer looks pink in some light, and almost bluish in others.  It's not over the top shimmer, just a slight little pick me up.

The orange itself is so bright, it looks like it's lit up.  It was very hard to capture on film.

Natural Light

Beautiful for spring and summer - this one is a keeper!

This is two coats with one coat of top coat.  The consistency is easy to use, just thick enough to achieve a nice layer without being streaky.  This will be a go-to for me this summer, for sure.

NOTD: Essie "School of the Hard Rocks"

9:00 AM

Essie's School of the Hard Rocks.  This is a dusty gray/teal/evergreen.  Really, the product in the bottle doesn't do it justice.  Applied, this is a very unique and beautiful shade.  This falls into the "greige" category, only on the green side - maybe a "greenge"?  I will say, this was a bit of a difficult color to capture in pictures - it looks more blue in the pictures, and is a bit more green in real life - but you get the idea.

I wanted to add a little bit of a festive look to this color, so I used one of my CinaPro Nail Decals in Peppermint Twist, which I found at Sally Beauty.  They are adorable, and this set has candy canes, snowmen, wreaths and gingerbread men.  There is another one exclusive to Sally that has Santa, Rudolph, and other festive decals.  I believe they retailed for $3.99.

Back to the Essie - the formula is one of the nicer formulas for Essie.  This is smooth and shiny and coverage is very nice.  Above is two coats of polish with one coat of top coat.  I would put this polish as one of the "must have's" for you - it's different enough, but also very wearable.

Have you tried this color?  What other color from the collection have you picked up?

Is your Walgreens being remodeled?

11:18 AM

It seems like all three Walgreens in my area are going through an intense remodel.  I went in the store closest to my office the other day, and they were about 75% done, and lucky for me, the portion that was complete is the Health and Beauty department, so I took a couple of pictures to show you what you have to look forward to!
First off, they are putting a big, light up end cap at the front of the Health and Beauty department.  This particular store displayed the entire Essie nailpolish collection, and also had the permanent display within the beauty department.  The other side of the display had some seasonal display pieces (i.e. the Revlon Expressionists collection, etc).

Also, for those of you who don't have a full-fledged Jordana selection in your local drug stores, if you happen to have a Walgreens that is remodeling, they are getting a whole section in the Beauty section.  I really love their pencil eyeliners, especially for the price.  I've done a few reviews of their products here, so you can browse through the pictures.

I also saw quite a few new hair and body care lines in the Health and Beauty department as well.  I wasn't able to snap pictures of those unfortunately.

Also, if you check out the little clearance spots at the ends of aisles, you'll most likely find a lot of newer products on clearance.  I found some new Maybelline blushes, Revlon nail polishes and some eyeshadows, which I'll post pictures of here shortly!  The best part - the blushes rang up $0.87 because they were BOGO50%!  It is definitely worth checking out!

CVS

Spotted at CVS: New Essie Fall 2011 "Carry On" Collection

3:46 PM

I know it's already August 1st, but it's hard to believe that Fall is just around the corner!  Well, my pit-stop over lunch to CVS just reminded me: Essie Fall 2011 collection is out, called Carry On.  This is a set of four creme shades, which can be seen below.  Click for a larger view.

From left to right:  Case Study, Carry On, Power Clutch and Lady Like.
Missing were Very Structured (a terre cotta/tan shade) and Glamour Purse (a warm pale gray).

Have you seen these yet?  I picked up Carry On and Power Clutch.  Gorgeous.

NOTD: Essie Coat Azure

8:00 AM

Essie's Spring Collection, A French Affair, included several beautiful pastels, and also this beautiful periwinkle blue with a hint of silver shimmer called Coat Azure.  I'm not usually a blue nailpolish girl, but this one definitely converted me.

This is a medium blue.  Just the slightest shimmer - it really takes the right lighting (i.e. natural light below) to capture it.  The formula is great - very smooth and easily applied.  Below is two coats.

The color reminds me of spring, specifically the little vinca vines or myrtle that pop up around here in my garden - beautiful!

Spotted at Walmart: Essie Nailpolishes

10:46 AM

It's amazing what you can come across the day after Christmas...why weren't these out before hand for some last minute gift ideas?  While paroozing the after Christmas clearance at Walmart, I saw an enormous end cap for Essie nail polishes, which are now carried at Walmart.  The regular price was $7.49, but were on "special" for $7.00 a bottle.  From what I could tell, this was the entire line, including four seasonal shades, which you can see at the top right corner of the display.  This is definitely something kind of different for Walmart.  I'm glad to see it!

Have you seen this display yet?
