Shakeup Your Makeup

Another bright one for today - this time I dug deep into my makeup to find a Cover Girl eyeshadow I hadn't worn in a long time - Cover Girl Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Eyeshadow in Lime Alive.  This is a gorgeous, bright green (almost yellow) shade with a hint of frost.  I paired this with Fyrinnae's "Dressed to Kill", Jesse's Girl "Sparkles Gold", and MAC Crushed Metal Pigments in Stacked #2 (the golden shade).

The other morning, while putting on my makeup, I realized I haven't worn any color in a while, so I thought I'd play around with some greens and turquoises to add some *pop* to my look. Usually in the spring/summer I go over the top with really colorful eyeshadow, but not this year for some reason.

To create the look below, I dug around in my eyeshadows and found a few shades I had not touched in a while, including some Jesse's Girl eye dusts (which I absolutely love for the price), my Bare Escentuals Peacock Glimmer, and the dark brown eyeshadow Lucky Tom from the MAC Hello Kitty Lucky Tom palette. To finish off the look I used my new MAC Dazzleglass in Rags to Riches, which is a beautiful sheer baby pink with sparkles.

Most of you know that although I love my high end brands like MAC, but there is no denying that there are some really good brands you can find at your local drug store as well. One of these is Jesse's Girl, which unfortunately is not in any drug store around me, but has a great website with great deals and fantastic customer service!

I just received an email from them yesterday about some new products, one of which is their new Stardust Powder eyeshadows, which remind me of some of the really pretty Smashbox colors for spring. These retail for $4.49 each, but on the website you can order the whole collection for $24.00!

There are several new shades in their Eye Dusts, which a lot of people compare to the same quality of MAC pigments, and the color variety is second to none! I have a whole set of sample baggies of all the colors (with the exception to the new ones that just came out on their website this week) and the colors are vibrant, staying power is exceptional, and the price is phenomenal at $3.99 a piece!

Give Jesse's Girl a try, you won't be disappointed!

I have been having so much fun playing around with warm golds and browns! They are so easy to coordinate and can make a stunning yet neutral look!

Some of my new favorite eyeshadows are the Jesse's Girl Eye Dusts, which have some great staying power and beautiful colors. I chose the eye dust in Sunlit Cactus to play with this time. This color comes off as a burnished gold, but also has tons of olive green iridescence to it, making this a fun color to play with.

As I'm sure many of you know, I love golds and browns. Although I do like to play in color, working with browns and golds is so easy for me to do, so I just love to play around with different colors and techniques when I have the chance.

I decided to do more of a smokey antique gold look with the following colors:

For some reason, all these random colors worked well together and made a natural but beautiful look. The liquid eyeliner managed to take on several colors, including lavender, silver, gold and bronze. I absolutely love it!

Please disregard the fact that I desperately need to get my eyebrows done! :) I just noticed how terrible they look when I was editing the pictures - ha!

I have been in a smokey EOTD mood recently, so I thought I would share the turquoise and gold look I did this past weekend. I used:

Bourjois Ombre a Paupieres in Noir Emeraude 07 in outer corner and blended into crease
Jesse's Girl Eye Dust in Reflects Gold as high light

I am absolutely loving the Bourjois Noir Emeraude because it is a warm black color, that can be blended into tons of colors (for example, turquoise) to build a beautiful and smokey eye. And, for the 75% off I bought it at Sephora, it really was a no brainer!!

Question: How do you actually get them on your face right without a brush?

Answer: Now that I finally was able to upload and adjust some of my pictures, I can show you all how I used these sheets!

First, I applied my primer, concealer and foundation as usual. Here I am wearing Laura Geller's Perfect Match, which was a kit which I purchased off of QVC. My foundation and concealer are "medium". Once my foundation has set, I took a sheet of the Mary Kate and Ashley Paper Me Pretty Blush in "Radiance".


"Radiance" is a bright pink, with cool tones to it. There are a handful of other blush colors (probably 5), so there are some warmer shades as well.

Once my foundation had set, I held the sheet by the back, which didn't have very much blush on it, if any at all. I applied the blush like you would any other, starting with the apples of your cheek and swiping it backwards. Think of the sheet of paper as your brush, and just swirl and swipe back.

At this point, the color should be applied to your cheeks, although it will most likely have some harsh lines which need to be blended (see below).

I chose one of my lighter and fluffier blush brushes - this one is my Laura Geller double ended blush/eyeshadow brush. Very lightly, I blended the edges. You don't want to be too rough with this, or else your brush will pick up the blush and you will lose your color.

At this point, I finished my makeup, eyeshadow and mascara and had this look! The blush lasted all day - it has fantastic staying power, and for the price you can pick and choose different colors to play with. What's even better, they don't have any fall out when you apply!

As you probably noticed from the picture of my original purchase, I also bought a bronzer, another shade of blush, and one of their sparkle sheets. I will swatch those out for you to see as well! They are really neat!

Jesse's Girl Cosmetics has a set of four colors in a baked eyeshadow, similar to MAC Mineralize shadows and the Laura Geller baked eyeshadows, but at a fraction of the price and a substantially larger product. I purchased the set of four at approximately $17 and S/H was free! You can purchase them individually at $4.99 each, as well!


The set of four colors includes Volcanic (red), Aqua (blue), Evergreen (green/gold) and Earthtone (gold/copper). The colors have great pigmentation and a beautiful shimmer associated with them.

The color Volcanic is a beautiful red with pink shimmer and would also make a great blush if used with a skunk brush. Aqua is a beautiful bright blue with silver shimmer.

Evergreen has the tendency to move between a green/gold to a turquoise color, depending on how much of each you pick up with your brush. Earthtone is an absolutely beautiful brown/copper color with lots of shimmer.

I mentioned earlier that I ordered some eye dusts and baked shadows from Jesse's Girl Cosmetics. Unfortunately here in Indy, we don't have any Rite-Aid's, or any other drugstores for that matter, which carry Jesse's Girl. I had read so much about them on Makeup Alley, but hadn't been able to find anything to try out locally. A few weeks ago, the lovely Toma had posted about the new baked eye shadows for her "Hidden Gems" and I had to order them online. The colors looked beautiful, and the price was right at about $17 for all four, plus free shipping. While I was browsing around the site, I found the eye dusts, which I have read a lot about, including their similarities to MAC pigments. At $3.99 each, you can't beat the price, so I figured I'd try a few colors out. I chose the following:

Not only are the packages filled to the brim, but I received a bag full of sample baggies for each eye dust they have! What a great way to get me to buy again, because I definitely will!!
