Bitter Lace Beauty

Bitter Lace Beauty UnBirthday Highlighter and Kylie Lip Kit in Mary Jo

6:48 AM

I love discovering new indie companies and sharing them with you!  I was running through Instagram the other day, and stumbled across Bitter Lace Beauty, an adorable Etsy Shop that has a variety of highlighters to choose from.  I picked up UnBirthday, which is a gorgeous swirl of turquoise, gold, pink, coral and violet.  When brushed on the skin, it is the most beautiful and bright way of turning the lights on your skin.  I couldn't be happier with the purchase, and I know I will be going back for more!

I purchased two UnBirthday, one for me, and one for my sister.  Look at how different each one is!

Above, the UnBirthday I kept for myself.  I absolutely love all of the colors, and look at how illuminating it is!  The colors all swirl together beautifully, and make just a gorgeous color on the skin.  With precise application, you could grab any of the colors individually to use as an eye-shadow or highlight as well.

Below, UnBirthday on me.  Everything I am wearing is broken down below:

FOTD: Covergirl TruNaked Goldens Pallet

9:38 AM

I posted some swatches of the new Cover Girl TruNaked Goldens pallet, and today is a quick FOTD I did using them as well.  These are gorgeous, highly compatible and blendable shadows.  Like I mentioned in the earlier post, I am blown away by the quality of these, especially when used over a base.  CoverGirl was never my "go to" drug store brand for eyeshadows, but I am absolutely loving this pallet and will definitely take a look at the other two available.  I also will say, although they are attempting to be a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked pallets, these do have some different colors in the mix, making these a lot of fun to work with!

Below is my quick cut-crease with the pallet.  I used the darkest brown for the crease, blended it into the third-from-the-left and blended that into the third-from-the-right for my crease.  The lid is the second from the right, and my highlight is the farthest to the right.  Gorgeous - a simple and easy way to create a neutral cut crease, and at a drug-store cost!

Lips are the Younique Opulence Lipstick in Stuck Up.  Cheeks is the Nars Orgasm blush.

FOTD using Younique Pigments in Empowered, Dignified, Innocent, and Beautiful as well as NYX Sunset and Urban Decay Naked 2 Blackout

9:58 AM

\

This morning's FOTD/EOTD features more Younique products...this time, their pigments.  I wanted to play around with some greens and blues, so I picked Dignified and Empowered out of my samples, as well as a matte rust brown called Beautiful.  Empowered is a very pale sea foam green with golden duochrome.  Dignified is a rich turquoise, with sparks of green, blue and gold.  I mixed these colors with NYX Sunset, a rich orange to burnt orange frost and the Blackout shade from the Urban Decay Naked 2 pallet.

The Younique pigments are very rich and, I know...shocker...PIGMENTED!  They are very smooth, creamy, and a little goes a long way.  I used the Dignified as a liner on the bottom by applying it wet, and it went on extremely smoothly and did not fall into the lines along my undereye.  The mattes applied effortlessly, without any chalkiness or grabbing and pulling on the lid.  I have been extremely impressed with how well the shadows blend together, to create that seamless transition between colors.

On top of how workable these pigments are, let me tell you a few more things about them:

-  They are 100% Natural
-  They are chemical free
-  Mineral based
-  They are free of talc oils, preservatives, perfumes, synthetic dyes and parabens
-  No creasing, smudging or smearing!

At $10 a pop, these are going to last you a very long time, and are very versatile.  I can't wait to create some more looks and share them with you!

Bare Escentuals

NARS Silent Night Eyeshadow & FOTD

10:56 AM

I ordered quite a bit of Christmas presents from Sephora's website this year.  Actually, now that I think about it, I did a lot of e-tailing this year, and it was so easy!  Anyways, at some point in December, Sephora had Nars Silent Night eyeshadow for something like $9, so I picked one up for myself and another for my mom for Christmas.

Talk about G-O-L-D!  This color is truely a bright, yellow-gold shimmer with a hint of sparkles woven through.  The texture is creamy, but chunky, if that makes sense - I know there were a lot of customers that complained about the texture.  I did find that it didn't apply very consistently over dry skin, but if I used Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy it applied extremely well and had very good coverage and pigmentation.  The sparkles even stayed in place!  Below I did a smokey-gold makeup look with Nars and some of the new Fyrinnae's (which I am working on swatching and posting).

...(for some reason, I look really disappointed below...not sure why!)...

FOTD: Smokey Gold for the Ballet!

10:49 AM

Last week I had the opportunity to take my little sister to the Indianapolis City Ballet. It was an amazing event, as they had brought in such unbelievable talent from all around the world, including the Ukraine, Canada, and New York, just to name a few!

For the event, I thought it would be fun to use some bolder colors than I am used to, particularly the lipstick - I mean, it's not very often we get the chance to go to the ballet here!

FOTD- Teal and Gold (Fyrinnae Sticky Buns, Vodka, and BE Chameleon)

8:00 AM

I have been wearing a lot of neutrals recently, so I thought it time to wear some color...plus, I needed a *pick me up* for this week at work!  One of my favorite teal colors is Fyrinnae "Vodka" because it is so versatile.  Not only is it a beautiful green, blue, with shimmer, but it makes a great eyeliner too!  It blends well with neutrals so you can use golds and browns if a lot of color is too much for your look, or you can blend it with bright colors effortlessly as well.  To complete this look, I used Fyrinnae's Sticky Buns as my gold.  I really enjoy using Sticky Buns because it is not a yellow gold, but instead a much more natural, tan colored gold.  Blend this into Bare Escentuals Chameleon, and add Taylor Made Minerals Dralion as my eyeliner.  Believe it or not, this is a duochrome, but it only is showing the gold/copper color of the shadow in the pictures below.

Here is my whole look below.  I really enjoyed this combination, and will probably try it again, but maybe with a different liner so it photographs a little better.

Face
Bare Escentuals Medium Foundation
NARS Orgasm Blush

Eyes

Nars "O" Dupes (Milani Luminous, Wet 'n Wild Pearlescent Pink, Loreal Front Page Peach and Ulta Afterglow)

8:00 AM

Something I find I am always trying to do is find a good knockoff of a product in a drugstore brand. I posted a few days ago about a good duplicate of the Urban Decay Primer Potion in the Lumene Beauty Base Eye Makeup Base, and now I am going to tackle the infamous Nars O blush.

While going through my collection of blushes, I discovered I have about every possible knockoff available, so I thought I'd line them up against the real deal - Nars.

Wet 'n Wild "Pearlescent Pink" - shimmering pink/coral - more pink than coral with golden shimmers.

Ulta Blush "Afterglow" - shimmering pink with coral/gold sparkles - cooler undertones than Nars O.

Milani "Luminous" - coral blush with golden shimmers and a more golden undertone.

Loreal "Front Page Peach" - pale coral with a hint of pink and very golden shimmers.

From the swatches below you can see the similarities and differences in all the colors. Depending on your skintone, some might work better than others (i.e. darker skintones might want the deeper corals of Ulta Afterglow and Wet 'n Wild Pearlescent Pink). I think that of the four I am comparing to Nars, that Loreal Front Page Peach and Milani Luminous are the best in actual comparison. Loreal has a bit more golden shimmer, and the Milani isn't quite as pigmented as the Nars, but all in all, these are the most similar. Milani's you should be able to find at any of your local drug stores, where Loreal Front Page Peach I had to purchase on Ebay.
Because I just received the Loreal Front Page Peach in the mail yesterday, I had to play around with it and see if I liked the color or not - which I do! Not only is it a great flush, but it has a beautiful glow associated with it. The glow isn't quite as evident below, but this is a beautiful blush!

Avon

NARS Earth Angel FOTD

11:00 AM

You know when you look through your makeup and "re"discover something you haven't used in a while? Well that happened to me the other day when I came across Nars Earth Angel eyeshadow duo. I received this a few years ago as a gift for my birthday and used it religiously, and then it fell to the bottom of my collection, only to be lost for years!

I decided I needed a neutral look, so I used these eyeshadows, along with MAC's Vanilla pigment.

Everday Minerals Multi Tasking Concealer
Everday Minerals Summer Fair Foundation
Bare Escentuals Tinted Feather Light Mineral Veil
MAC Mineralize Duo Blush "Grand Duo"
Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion - all over lid

Nars Earth Angel taupe - outer corner, lower lashline

FOTD - Dark Smokey Eye

9:23 AM

I have to say that recently with the dark, gloomy and cold weather, I haven't been motivated to do a whole lot with my makeup. I decided to change that and try and dark and smokey look with a charcoal color sweater I had. I found this look to be so extremely simple, yet definitely a bold look, and perfect for any night out! The three colors I used were Fyrinnae "Shinkirou" pigment, NYX "Midnight" eyeshadow, and Bourjois Wet/Dry eyeshadow in "Gris Delicat".

To achieve this look, I used:

UDPP as a base
Bourjois Wet/Dry "Gris Delicat" - inner corner and lower lashline
NYX "Midnight" outer corner into outer crease
Fyrinnae "Shinkirou" as highlight and blended into crease
Mary Kate & Ashley Liquid eyeliner "Black"
NYX Dolleyes Lengthening Mascara - Ultimate Black

For the rest of my face I used Bare Escentuals "Fair" Foundation, Bare Escentuals Tinted Feather Light Mineral Veil, Nars "Lovejoy" blush, and Bare Escentuals Buxom "Ruby" lipgloss.

Nars

Nars Blush - LoveJoy

11:43 AM

I've decided I'm in love with Nars blushes, and went to Sephora to see what the other colors look like. I immediately went towards Lovejoy, which is a beautiful warm pink/peach with gold shimmer. With my fair skin, it's hard to find a warm color that doesn't go on orange, but this one definitely doesn't. It adds a darker color that Orgasm or Super Orgasm, but with the same blendability and shimmer. More pictures to come!

My Sephora Friends and Family 2008 Purchases

8:00 AM

So I did some major damage this year with the Sephora Friends and Family event. How could I not, with free shipping and 20% off, I was ready!! Although I debated about the Urban Decay Book of Shadows, which I really wanted, I decided to downsize my cart ($$$) and ordered the Urban Decay Primer Potion instead (which I am thrilled about!).

As you can see below, I ordered the UDPP, Bare Escentuals Extreme Glimmers, Bare Minerals Ruby Collection and the Nars Super Orgasm Blush. I also received my QVC Today's Special Value, the Bare Escentauls Champagne Diamonds collection at the same time, so I've included it in the picture, as well. The samples I received were some perfumes, none of which were really for me once I wore them, but I'm glad I tried!

I swatched the collections tonight, but don't have time to upload the pictures, so hopefully tomorrow I will do that - they are beautiful!

I am definitely a glitter girl, and absolutely fell in love with the Nars Super Orgasm. I know that a lot of people don't like chunky or glittery items, so if that is the case, you probably want to stick to the basic Nars Orgasm blush, as it still has the shimmer but doesn't have the "glitter" that you see in the picture below. The color of this blush is stunning, though. It is a really pink/coral color with golden shimmer undertones, and it definitely blends right in and is beautiful on. Everyone is right about Nars blushes, though - they are wonderful!
