Avon Haul Part 2 - SuperShock Mascara Intense Emerald and Perfectly Portable Liquid Eyeliner

8:00 AM

I hope that everyone had a wonderful and yummy filled Thanksgiving! Now that I'm back from a little stint with the families, I thought it was time to update the remainder of my Avon Haul from last week...

I love colorful mascara - I think my favorite so far are the Lash Blast Luxe mascaras I posted about earlier. I saw that Avon had expanded their line of the SuperShock Mascara to include colors (Burgundy, Emerald, Sapphire and Violet), so I thought I would try them out! I picked Emerald, strictly because I love green. I probably should have bought Burgundy or Violet because my eyes are hazel, but oh well! I haven't tried these out yet, so I will post a review and pictures once I do.

I also picked up one of the Perfectly Portable Liquid Eyeliner Markers in black. Like the Wet 'n Wild I posted about earlier, I just love the convenience and ease of these - they are perfect for a quick and simply line, without the fuss of waiting for the liner to dry like a typical liquid.

The closeup of the brush and color of the Intense Emerald Super Shock is below. It is quite similar to the Lash Blast Luxe green as well, even down to the shimmer in the color. I do think this is a bit more green, and less black, so we'll see how this shows up once applied.

The Perfectly Portable liquid eyeliner is in a tiny little pen, perfect for your purse or makeup bag. The brush is felt tip - think a calligraphers pen. This liquid is a bit more intense black than that of the Wet 'n Wild, so it goes over the eyeshadows much easier, without having a second or third coat.

The tip on this liner is very fine too, so you are able to be precise in your line, and add thickness as needed. It doesn't bleed into fine lines, and it doesn't smear once dried. I rubbed my hand vigorously over this once it was dried and nothing budged!

Like I said, I will post pictures of the mascara and eyeliner once used so everyone can see the total effect. Hopefully I will like these Intense Mascaras as much as the Lash Blast Luxe since they have a few different colors than Lash Blast...it might be a nice wait to expand my colored mascara collection!

Happy Thanksgiving!

9:27 AM

Good morning everyone! I wanted to take this time to wish you and your friends and family a very happy Thanksgiving! I have so much to be thankful for, and you all are no exception.

I hope you enjoy some great food and family time (and maybe even a Friday sale or two)!

xoxo,
Meredith

Avon Haul Part 1: Satin Delux Blush Duo "Natural" and "Pink", NailPRO Nail Polish "Golden Rose", and Mirror Shine Nail Enamel "Polish"

8:00 AM

I ordered quite a lot of things on my last Avon order, so I am breaking it up into bits and pieces along here, to make it a little easier to see. The first thing I did was order the other two colors from the clearance catalog of the Avon Satin Delux Blush Duos - Natural and Pink. I love these, and I think I paid $1.99 for each, which is a steal. The pigmentation is unreal and ultimately there are two shades (one shimmer and one matte) in each blush!

"Natural" is truly as it says - this isn't orangey, from what I can tell in my initial use, and the color will be perfect in the summer when I have more color. "Pink" is a warm pink. It's not coral, but does have the warmer undertone to it. The shimmer is on the lighter side as well, but both of these shades are extremely pigmented and required a light hand when applying.

I have taken closeups below - you can really see the shimmer on the left and the matte on the right for each of these.

I picked up two nail polishes as well - one of the Avon Nailwear Pro in Golden Rose and one of their newest collections, the Mirror Shine in Polish. This is Avon's version of all the chrome polishes you are seeing on the market, and although I just swatched on my thumb, it lives up to the name "mirror".

I took a closeup of the Golden Rose below in an effort to get the flecks of gold that are running through it. This is absolutely gorgeous. Although I don't think of wearing pinks in the fall and winter months, this color is definitely the exception - with all the golden flakes running through the color, it is perfect to add some glitz and glam to your look.
(I apologize for the quick paint job below!)

As I said earlier, the Avon Mirror Shine Nail Enamels are Avon's version of all the chrome polishes we have been seeing on the market. This color, Polish, is a very pretty cool grape purple. The label makes it look a little warmer/egg plant, but it is a very silvery purple. The coverage is fantastic - this is one coat! I can't wait to use this as a manicure!

More goodies to come! Tons of lipstick, lipgloss and the new Supershock Intense Mascara!

Bare Escentuals

Fyrinnae FOTD (Samhain Spirits, Shinigami, Liquor is Quicker, Lousey Tip, and Polar Bear)

9:51 AM

I really loved this combination, so I wanted to share it with you! I bought a shirt a few weeks ago that is very colorful, but warm - the colors in it are brick red, egg plant purple, ivory, black and golds. I decided I wanted to try and and mix some of these same shades together, and when I pulled out my drawer of Fyrinnae pigments, three stuck out as perfect: Samhain Spirits, Shinigami and Polar Bear.

This was very easy and I definitely loved it!

Black Radiance

Black Radiance Bold & Sexy Nail Lacquer: Passionate, Sassy, and Naughty

8:00 AM

Grocery shopping this weekend at the local Meijer, I found that they had several items on clearance (Jane, some Milani, and Black Radiance). I was looking for a new nail polish to dip into, so the clearance rack of Black Radiance Bold & Sexy Nail Lacquers caught my eye, especially at a little over $2 a piece. The colors are all very warm toned, shimmery with golden sparkle, and perfect for fall, so I was an easy sell.

The three colors I picked up were Passionate (a deep cranberry with golden shimmer), Naughty (coffee brown with golden and olive shimmer), and Sassy (deep tan with golden shimmer). Each of the bottles is small, the brush is very thick with a rounded tip, and from what I can tell in testing Sassy, 2 coats is the perfect amount to get exceptional coverage.

Below I did a manicure using Sassy. I love this color because it is a great fall shade - its almost a deep pewter color. I'm going to let my nails grow out a little more before I try out Passionate or Naughty. Unfortunately, I had to cut them all back after a lot of manual labor and dry weather caused a few of them to chip.
Speaking of manicures - what is your favorite hand lotion for the dry, winter months? As you can see below, my skin gets very dry (and that is probably an hour after applying lotion!). Any suggestions would be very helpful! :)

Rimmel Volume Flash The Max and Wet n Wild Mega Eyes Defining Marker

8:00 AM

I am always on the lookout for new mascaras, and Rimmel never seems to fail me with this respect. While wandering through the sale section of Halloween cosmetics (you can't beat 75% off false eyelashes!), I found that Rimmel has come out with another (and newer) version of their Volume Flash mascara - this one called Rimmel Volume Flash The Max. I also found Wet n Wild Mega Eyes Defining Marker eyeliner.

Rimmel Volume Flash The Max comes in the prettiest color package - I love bright pink, and it definitely stands out amongst the loads of mascaras I have in my drawer (especially those in black packages!). The tube is thick, so it's easy to hold onto and use. The brush is stiff, not flimsy, and reaches in between each lash (picture of the brush-head below).

Rimmel puts it best:

"Meet the latest addition to Rimmel’s successful Volume Flash range – The Max Volume Flash Mascara. It delivers up to fourteen times more volume for big, super-charged lashes. Take your eyes to the max with the supersized, perfect-fit brush that works in perfect synergy with the exclusive quick setting Lash Expand formula. The cushion-like collagen effectively binds to each individual lash, while the keratin works to smooth the surface of the lashes, leaving them stronger, sleeker and shinier.Capture that edgy London look than with big, bold attention-grabbing lashes."

The brush reminds me of the Maybelline Colossal Mascara brush, but not quite as clunky. The formula of this mascara is very smooth and isn't clumpy at all. Because of the viscosity of the mascara itself, you can layer and layer without looking like a spider when you're done - not to mention, you don't need more than two coats to achieve rich, thick and lush lashes.

As I mentioned above, I also discovered the Wet n Wild Mega Eyes Defining Marker. I believe this only comes in black right now, which is fine by me! I love eyelining markers - mark. (Avon) had one a while back that I used so often it dried up and then they discontinued it, so I'm thrilled to have a replacement. I find that these are so much easier than pencils, your standard liquids, and even gel eyeliners because it is like you are drawing in your eyes, not using a brush or utensil to do the drawing for you.
"Don't be afraid to make your mark! This easy-to-handle liquid pen features a soft felt-tip edge for great definition and effortless application. The quick dry formula wears all day and is smudge-proof. Designed to help you create any look: draw a thin line for a subtle, yet well-defined eye or go dramatically bolder with a thicker line.

Features
Soft-felt tip edge for easy application
Long-lasting, quick-dry formula

Application Tips
Trace the natural lash line of your eyes starting at the inner corner of the top lid. Repeat on the lower lid. "

Below is an extreme closeup of the applicator - it looks like a calligraphy pen! It's flexible, and very forgiving when you apply. The line is very smooth and it's not so dark that it looks like you used a Sharpie on your eyes.

Although I didn't use the eyeliner in the look below, I did want to give you an opportunity to see the Rimmel Volume Flash The Max mascara at work. This is my very easy, go-to mascara, so I'm thrilled I found it (and only had to spend about $5 for it, too!). As I've said in the past, I think Rimmel makes some of the best mascaras out there.

Bare Escentuals

Bare Escentuals Beautiful in Pearls Collection I

8:00 AM

I received my Bare Escentuals Beautiful in Pearls Collection the other day and wanted to share everything with you.

First of all, let me just tell you how pretty the packaging is. It's hard to see in the pictures, but it is very pretty, and perfectly suited for holding things (I'm using it to store my brushes).

What is it: It's only natural that we present a pearl powder infused collection of gorgeous, glistening hues for eyes, face, and cheeks. The lustrous, creamy texture and subtle iridescence has been prized by collectors, revered by artists, and appreciated by women throughout history.

This exclusive 10-piece set has been infused with real cultured freshwater pearl powder and includes luminous colors wearable on every complexion plus all the brushes needed to create the total look.

Who is it for: For both bareMinerals newbies and makeup mavens. The set works with all skin types and complexions.

Why is it different: For the first time ever, Bare Escentuals is working with Honora, an industry leader in fine cultured freshwater pearls to present an amazing offering full of shades with rich depth and texture. With this collection of Honora pearl powder infused colors, you can easily achieve a look that beautifully reflects light off the skin.

How do I use it: Beautify your eyes with a shimmering wash of Blissful Pearl eye color from lash line to brow with the Precision Eye Defining Brush. Create intriguing depth with a layer of Magnificent Pearl eye color blended into the crease contour with the same brush. Bring out your eyes by applying Big & Bright eyeliner on your upper and lower lash lines in a thin or thick line, then blend it with the smudge tip for soft effects. It's gentle enough to apply to the inner rims of the eyes for dramatic definition. Finish by sweeping lashes with Flawless Definition Mascara to define and emphasize every single lash. Use the pointed end to reach even the smallest lashes. Add a natural-looking glow by buffing Precious Pearl blush along the apples of your cheeks with the Tapered Blush Brush. Buff the Brightening Pearl Mineral Veil over your face with the Flawless Application Face Brush for a soft, subtle finish. Glide on Sugared Strawberry 100% natural Lip Gloss for sheer, shimmering color.

From Bare Escentuals.

Includes:

  • 0.02 oz Blissful Pearl eye color (seashell peach)--exclusive to QVC until December 31, 2012
  • 0.02 oz Magnificent Pearl eye color (charcoal taupe)--exclusive to QVC until December 31, 2012
  • .012 oz Big & Bright Mineral Eyeliner Pencil (intense black)--worldwide launch and exclusive to QVC until January 29, 2010
  • 0.33 oz Flawless Definition Mascara (black)
  • 0.03 oz Precious Pearl blush (dusty pink)--exclusive to QVC until December 31, 2012
  • 0.07 oz Brightening Pearl Mineral Veil (subtle pearlescent)--exclusive to QVC until November 1, 2010
  • 0.14 oz Sugared Strawberry 100% natural lip gloss (rose berry)--exclusive to QVC until November 1, 2010
  • Precision Eye Defining Brush
  • Tapered Blush Brush
  • Flawless Application Brush
  • Eyeliner made in Italy; Mascara made in Canada; Brushes and box made in China; All else made in USA

This set introduces a brightening mineral veil, beautiful blush and two gorgeous eyeshadows. This also introduces the first and newest addition to their line, the mineral eyelining pencil.

The mineral veil is very light, just as the standard veil in the line. This, on the other-hand, has a very fine hint of pearl, without being shimmery. This truly helps "brighten" the skin.

The blush in this collection is a deep pink, again, without tons of shimmer and instead just a hint of pearl. The color is called Precious Pearl, and this is a very versatile shade for all skin-tones, in my opinion.

Blissful Pearl is the lighter shade of the two eyeshadows in this set. This is described as a peachy seashell color. To me, this is a very neutral, skintone to almost tan shade with golden shimmer.

Magnificent Pearl is the darker shade - this is a smokey taupe with iridescence as well. I love this color! It is dark enough to work as a crease, but not so dark that it's overwhelming. I also used this as an eyeliner, and it's beautiful too!

Finding a smooth and creamy pencil eyeliner might be one of the most difficult tasks when it comes to makeup. On top of that, it is essential that the liner doesn't smear and move. I think that Bare Escentual's hit it right on the head when created this liner. The pigmentation is fantastic, the color is beautiful and it doesn't tug, pull or smear. (Please disregard the makeup smeared on the pencil - I took the picture after I tried out the colors!)

The swatches are all below. I think you can even see the "brightening" effect of the mineral veil.

Below I used the entire kit - its a great option to introduce yourself into Bare Escentuals - the colors are neutral, versatile and functional.
